Zero-Waste Oil Cleansing
Have you ever heard of oil cleansing? I discovered it this year and I will never wash my face with anything else ever again! Not only is it cleansing for all skin types, but also moisturizing, simple, effective, efficient and of course zero-waste! I can't flaw it really.
"The basic concept of this skin care and cleansing method is that the oil used to massage your skin will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and found itself stuck in your pores. The steam will open your pores, allowing the oil to be easily removed. Should you need it, the smallest drop of the same oil formula patted over damp skin will provide the necessary lubrication to keep your skin from over-compensating in oil production." ~ The Oil Cleansing Method
How to clean with oil:
- The oil used is up to you. Some suggest castor oil, which I've used in the past and really love, but I've switched it up recently and am currently using coconut oil
- Massage the oil all over your face and neck
- Take your washcloth or reusable facial rounds, run it under as hot as water as you can tolerate, and either drape the washcloth over your entire face for a quick steam and then wipe the oil off, or take your reusable facial round and steam your face section by section and wipe away any excess oil as you go. Because I use PFHK's bamboo facial rounds, I do the latter.
It's really that simple! The oil is perfect for removing eye make-up, as well as sunscreen, foundation or any other product you've applied to your face. And as stated earlier, you won't even need to moisturize after you're finished cleansing, as it's already been done!
I always follow with a Vitamin C serum, but other than that, my night-time cleansing routine is very quick and simple.
